Your energy use is being compared to the usage patterns of a group of about 100 neighbors whose homes are close to yours and similar in size.
We've chosen specific homes that are nearby and have characteristics similar to yours, such as home size and heating source. Importantly, we only include homes that appear to be occupied at the time of the comparison.
Good Question. There are factors we don't take into account, such as the number of occupants in the home and extra features like hot tubs and swimming pools. We are working to offer the ability for you to provide that additional information, which we will then use to refine your neighborhood comparison. Our current reports compare 100 similar, nearby, occupied homes. That 100-home average offers a good representation of typical usage.
That's understandable. Circumstances do vary. We provide a wide range of ideas for reducing energy use. Discover which tips are best for you. You may be surprised at the savings you can achieve.
Energy efficient households can take different steps to reduce electricity use, like using a programmable thermostat, taking shorter showers and running full loads in the dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer. Our report suggests steps you can take to help make your home more efficient.
